What do you do when you are not writing?
When I’m not writing I’m probably sleeping, doing homework, or in school. If I’m lucky I’m practicing taekwondo, reading a book for fun, or hanging out with my friends!
How did you choose the genre you write in?
The only genre I can use for both of my books (and my WIPs) is YA. That’s probably because I myself am YA. Otherwise my genre differs—Rain is a spy novel, Flawless Ruins is a dystopian, my current WIP is contemporary, et cetera—and my style changes as I grow as a writer. I think the thing they all have in common is that the characters are the most important parts of the stories.
Have you written a book you love that you have not been able to get published?
Not necessarily one I haven’t been able to get published, but there’s one story I absolutely love…but haven’t been able to finish. It’s based off of a game of pretend my sister and I used to play, and while I’ve changed the overall plot many times—both mentally and in multiple storyboards—the world and characters are very defined to me. It’ll be finished someday, I promise!
Can you tell us about your upcoming book?
Flawless Ruins is pretty exciting, because one, there are no men! (Kidding, there are. But they’re a secret.) Two, the cover is fantastic (and the image was designed by my also very fantastic sister). Three, it’s written from two points of view. Four, it has a blurb from Mandy Hubbard! And five, it’s almost out! (Officially released on June 15th!)
Do you have any advice to give to aspiring writers?
My advice to aspiring authors can be summed up in three parts:
One: know what you’re writing. At least have an idea where your story is going, or else it’s easy to get stuck writing in circles. (Yuck! Circles!)
Two: get feedback. Really, your friends and family will point out things in your story you hadn’t even noticed. Even after you’ve revised it five times. (Again, really.) Besides, feedback will make you a better writer!
Three: WRITE.
Chocolate or Vanilla?
Vanilla ice cream. Chocolate everything else.
If you were a superhero (or villain!) what would your power be? Would you wear a cape?
I’d be able to go invisible. And no… “No capes!” -Edna Mode.
What does your main character think about you? Are you best buds or have you tortured them so much you’d run if you actually ever met?
I’d approach Mel with caution, because I know she’s a) judgemental and b) lethal. I could be good friends with Morgan, but I’d probably have a hard time getting her to let me in on whatever adventures she’s probably having. And I wouldn’t get within a mile of Sophie (from my WIP).
Is there any food you refuse to eat?
I refuse to eat tomatoes. Ever. At all. Even in spaghetti sauce. I will pick the chunks out.
If you could live off of chocolate would you? What kind?
My gut instinct is yes!…but then I’m afraid I’d get bored of it. If I had to choose, though, I’d say Hershey’s milk chocolate. (If you’ve ever been on the Hershey’s Chocolate World ride, I bet the song just got stuck in your head…)
If you could visit any world ever written about, where would you go?
Any world ever written about? Hogwarts. It’s totally the best fictional microcosm. Was that even a question?

The three things that actually take up most of her time are school, homework, and the REM cycle.
